Clayton's Biography
Clayton (Clay) Sears was strongly molded by his small-town upbringing in Independence, Kansas. Following his graduation from Independence High School, he attended Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. While at Baker, Clay was a member of the football team, concert choir, chamber singers, speech choir, and the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Clay graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry and was named the Outstanding Chemistry Graduate of 2018 for the Wakarusa Section of the American Chemical Society.
Before attending The University of Kansas School of Law, Clay worked for a couple of years in the environmental industry, where he helped clients comply with EPA, DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations, with a focus on the hazardous waste sphere.
Following his graduation from KU, Clay started his legal career as an attorney at a prominent national insurance defense law firm before joining the DeVaughn James team.
When Clay is not in the office, you can find him spending time with his wife, Erynne, and their two toy poodles, Finnegan and Fifi, and their Chinese Crested, Dolce. Despite his alma mater, Clay is an avid K-State fan and sports enthusiast in general. In his free time, you can find Clay manning the grill or diving into a new book.
